Renewable Fuels Association says it is unable to confirm EPA model results on indirect land use change, calls for release of FAPRI model
In Washington, the Renewable Fuels Association raised concerns about the transparency and credibility of the modeling used by the EPA in developing its proposed Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2) rule, and said that its team had not been able to duplicate the results from the Food and Agriculture Policy Research Institute’s (FAPRI) system of models.
RFA President Bob Dinneen wote EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson that “The inability to replicate EPA’s FAPRI model results greatly weakens the capacity of stakeholders to provide meaningful comment. Stakeholder feedback is particularly important in this case, due to the fact that EPA’s approach to lifecycle analysis for this rulemaking is unprecedented, complex, and controversial.” RFA had previously requested that EPA release the FAPRI model, but EPA said it was unable to release the actual model itself as configured and utilized for the EPA analysis.
