In Latin America, a survey of South and Central American production found that Guatemala produced 64 Mgy of anhydrous ethanol at five sugarcane plants in 2008, with production up 50 percent over 2007. The survey, published in Ethanol Producer, also projected that Guatemala would produce up to 130 Mgy by 2010.
The survey also found that Colombia is producing 64 Mgy from five plants, while Uruguay is producing 1.5 Mgy using sugarcane and sweet sorghum, with a 25 Mgy project expected to open by 2014.
