In the UK, Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Green Fund is raising $395 million, and has received an $115 million infusion from the celebrated entrepreneur himself, while other major investors are being sought for the new fund, which will close in October.
The fund, based in San Francisco and London, expects to make investments into renewable energy, with returns up to 30 percent.
Branson has invested in biobutanol with Gevo, as well as GreenRoad Technologies, focused on reducing fuel usage, and has invested #3.2 million in the Carbon War Room, a New York-based environmental incubator.
