In Brazil, UNICA reported that the sugar harvest to date stood at 246.66 million tons at the end of July, up 14.96% from the end of July 2008. Rainy conditions reduced harvesting operations for the month of July,. particularly in the second half. UNICA also said that rainy conditions affected sugar content, with recovery down 2 percent from the corresponding period in 2008, with the harvest down 841,000 tons in recovered sugar.
Ethanol production stood at 2.79 billion gallons, up 7.55 percent from 2008.
