Thai government asks ethanol producers to halt exports to address shortage

In Thailand, the state energy ministry has requested that the Thai Ethanol Producers Association stop all ethanol exports until the fourth quarter of 2009 to ensure that domestic supplies are available.

The Thai government said that the ethanol shortage should be addressed when three tapioca flour plants compl, ete installation of ethanol processing equipment, which will allow them to produce sufficient excess ethanol (22 million gallons) to address the shortage in ethanol stocks.

Thailand, according to a report in Nation Multimedia, consumes 115 million gallons of ethanol domestically per year.
