Big River Resources, United Cooperative, and Rumbold & Kuhn form Big River United Energy
In Iowa, Big River Resources, United Cooperative, and Rumbold & Kuhn have merged to form Big River United Energy, and have acquired the 110 Mgy dry-mill Dyersville ethanol plant.
Big River also owned have facilities in West Burlington, Monmouth, Gerlaw, Galva and Grinnell including a total of 1980 Mgy in ethanol capacity at two plants, while United Cooperative is managing member of United Ethanol in Wisconsin and an investor in Carbon Green BioEnergy in Michigan.
Illinois-based Rumbold & Kuhn is an investor in Big River.
Last November, the former VeraSun Dyersville plant said that it has stopped processing and receiving corn at some of its facilities. At the time, VeraSun called the shutdown a temporary event, while it secures new financing under bankruptcy protection. The company told Reuters that it would pay for some or all of corn received since October 11 (20 days before the 10/31 Chapter 11 filing), and for all corn delivered subsequently. Analysts said that VeraSun’s difficulties stemmed from poor hedging executed by the company during the summer.
Last September, VeraSun Energy officially commenced production at the 100 Mgy corn ethanol plant in Dyersville. The plant was originally concieved and planned by US BioEnergy, which merged with VeraSun earlier in 2008. VeraSun owned 16 production facilities when it declared bankruptcy.
