In Canada, Sustainable Development Technology Canada said that it will award up to $550 million in its next cleantech funding round. SDTC is a not-for-profit corporation created by the Government of Canada to finance and support the late-stage development and pre-commercial demonstration of clean technologies.
SDTC helps companies through the critical juncture when capital and scaling costs become formidable challenges and the risk profile deters many other investors. To date, SDTC has allocated $ 376 million to 154 clean technology projects. An additional $905M million has been leveraged from project consortia members, for a total portfolio value of $1.3 billion.
SDTC is accepting applications until October 21, 2009.
