Australia’s MBD Energy signs three agreements for algal fuel trials

In Australia, MBD Energy said that it will introduce algae-based carbon capture with a 2.5 acre pilot plant at the Loy Yang-A coal-fired power plant in Victoria, and announced that it had signed agreements with NSW’s Eraring Energy, and an undisclosed emitter in Queensland to install pilot plants over the next 12 months.

MBD said that, if pilot trials are successful, it will commence development of an 200-acre pilot plant on an 80-acre footprint some time  in the next year, for an investment of $21 million. It will then develop a $242 million demonstration-scale facility.
