55 Mgy Highwater corn ethanol plant opens in Minnesota

In Minnesota, the 55 Mgy Highwater corn ethanol plant opened this past week in Lamberton, with plant owners selecting September 11th as the grand opening day to emphasize the plant’s potential contribution towards energy security. The project was initially announced in 2006.

The plant will utilize 6 million bushels of corn from the 3500 member Meadowland Farmers Coop, and will produce up to 160,000 tons of distillers grains that will be marketed back to the Coop and elsewhere by CHS. The new plant will feature faster fermentation and lower water usage than earlier-generation corn ethanol plants.
