Dubuque and IBM partner in “smarter, sustainable city” project for advanced energy, water management
In Iowa, IBM and the City of Dubuque outlined a plan to transform the 60,000 member Iowa community into one of the first “smarter, sustainable cities” in the U.S. Under the partnership, IBM and Dubuque will address energy, water management, and transportation issues, while reducing the community’s impact on the environment.
The first phase of the smart city partnership includes two projects to enhance the city’s and its citizens’ understanding of their energy consumption and water management, in order to reduce costs and the overall carbon footprint, via an IBM-built Real-time Integrated Sustainability Monitoring system to provide the city with an integrated of energy consumed by the electric grid, water system, and general city services.
