Vietnam’s cassava exports soar as China ethanol feedstocks demand growns
In Vietnam, cassava chip exports are producing up to $800 million in income for producers, according to local reports, with half of the demand coming in the last four months of this year. Demand has skyrocketed based on increased Chinese demand for ethanol feedstock, with Chinese imports expected to reach 6.5 million tonnes, sources from Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines and Nigeria.
Last year, cassava exports to China from Vietnam totaled $257 million. Vietnam currently enjoys a 90 percent market share of the CHina cassava trade. Overall, Vietnamese cassava cultivation spreads over 1.26 million acres and is expected to produce 8.6 million tonnes of cassava this year.
