In Russia, the national government is finalizing legislation that would require a minimum of 4% of energy coming from renewable resources by 2020, promoting a surge of interest in the development of wood biomass as a power and fuel feedstock. Under proposed legislation, Russia Today reports that renewable producers will receive 7 cents per kilowatt hour generated, for a 20 year term.
