BP supplies biobutanol for Mazda MZR in American LeMans race series
In California, BP is providing biobutanol and ethanol as a fuel for one of the Mazda MZR- R-powered Lola coupe racecars in the upcoming US Petit LeMans. According to a report in Motor Sports, the car using the fuel will not be competing for LeMans Series points during the race.
Biobutanol is made by a joint venture of DuPont and BP, and can be produced from cellulosic feedstocks as well as first-generation feedstocks such as corn, sugar cane and wheat. Biobutanol, in testing to date, has a similar emissions reduction capability as ethanol and can be transported and utilized in existing vehicle and pipeline infrastructure without modifications, and has a fuel economy close to that of standard gasoline.
