In Minnesota, EverCat Fuels commenced production at the first of what it hopes are “hundreds of next-generation, compact biodiesel refineries,” with the debut of its $9 million, 3 Mgy clean diesel demonstration plant in Isanti.
The plant uses the Mcgyan process to convert fats to fuel without the use of water, chemicals or waste, and the developers expect to increase production at this initial facility up to 30 Mgy by 2012. The Mcgyan process works with waste oils, weeds, sewage-treatment residue or algae, and converts its current fat feedstock into fuel within seconds.
