In Australia, the Gascoyne Research Station in Western Australia is now testing seeds of the moringa tree as a biofuels feedstock. According to project managers, early results from the trials show the potential of developing 10 metric tons of seeds per hectare with a 20-40 percent oil content, with a potential of around 485 gallons per acre.
The trial comes as Western Australia’s parliament rejected a proposal to impose a 5 percent ethanol mandate, a move that was applauded by the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association which is seeking a similar rejection in Queensland. New South Wales has already established an E5 mandate.
