Today in Biofuels Opinion: “EPA’s framework for categorizing biofuel production technologies is too inflexible.”

Brent Erickson, executive vice president of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental Section: “EPA’s framework for categorizing biofuel production technologies is too inflexible. A better approach would be to allow biofuel producers to estimate the carbon footprint for their plant based on specific data plugged into a flexible, technology neutral analysis tool that can account for future improvement and innovation.”

Biofuels Digest special correspondent Joelle Brink: “Alone we can’t do anything about the bad apples in the business and neither can the NGOs and international organizations, but together I believe we could: Recognize best practices and models in the industry, for example the Colombia model, exemplary growers and process innovators, etc; Create awards for excellence; Effectively isolate the bad apples by virtue of ignoring them; And develop professional education and certification programs that increase the sustainability of the industry and provide significant new income for your projects.”
