In Ethiopia, OiLibya announced an agreement with the Ethiopian government to provide E5 blended ethanol. Previously, Sudan’s Nile Petroleum was the only company that had obtained a right to distribute ethanol-blended fuel, but Nile;s low blending capacity had led to fuel shortages.
Among the problems – Fincha Sugar Factory, with a 2 Mgy sugarcane ethanol capacity , has been closed for maintenance, and was Nile’s only ethanol supplier.
