In Kansas, an ethanol fire prevention event, originally planned for local firefighters in Stirling, was expanded to a statewide event after firefighters from 29 Kansas counties indicated an interest in attending.
In all, 300 firefighters descended on the town for instruction in controlling four training fires that were set up in open burn tanks. Several types of fire retarding foam were tested during the event. Representatives from six out-of-state ethanol plants also attended.
