Mexican leaders reaffirm commitment to renewables despite financing slowdown

In Mexico, the Global Renewable Energy Forum 2009 in León concluded with leaders from the Mexican government as well as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization confirming a regional commitment to shifting the energy mix towards renewables.

According to a report in IPS, 13 percent of regional renewables came from burning wood biomass, and only 2.4 percent from more advanced systems including solar, wind or advanced biofuels and biomass conversion systems. According to UNIDO,  25 projects have halted in Mexico due to a slowdown in funding.  The IPS report has a good survey of South American energy consumption.
