Biofuels Digest Index gains 1.92 percent to 66.46 on algae, cellulosic ethanol gains

The Biofuels Digest Index™ (BDI), a basket of public biofuels stocks, gained 1.92 percent to 66.46 on algae and cellulosic ethanol news. For the day, BP jumped 4.22 percent after announcing a cellulosic ethanol venture in Brazil, while Valero (VLO) dropped 4.34 percent to $19.39 after swinging to a loss despite strong ethanol profits. Among smaller caps, PetroAlgae (PALG.OB) gained 23.14 percent to $19.00 on news of approval of its co-prodct in Indonesia. Overall, declines led advances 9 to 8 for the day.
