POET, BP: 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy candidate updates

Digest Subscriber voting for the 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy will commence 11/16.

In Hot 50 candidate news, POET held a Project LIBERTY Field Day last week, with full coverage here.

Company spokesman Nathan Schock said, “I can’t think of any other cellulosic ethanol producer putting in close to half the amount of work we’re doing on the harvest, transportation and storage of cellulosic biomass. At this event, we had DOE, USDA, Idaho National Lab, FSA; in short: all of the government organizations who are working on this. We also have a unit of our company solely dedicated to this effort. POET has also recently launched Inviz. Inviz is a protein that will be used as a coating to displace petroleum based products.”

Meanwhile, BP was named Biofuels Corporation of the Year Award by the World Refining Association. BP Biofuels was elected as the first recipient of the award by more than 350 biofuels industry players, regulators and policymakers and related associations, and was endorsed by the Advisory Board of the World Refining Association.

“Peer recognition is an especially valuable tribute,” says Phil New, chief executive of BP Biofuels in a message thanking the biofuels team for their contribution to winning the award. “We are building what we believe can be one of the world’s pre-eminent biofuels companies. This is one step on the way.”
