Biodiesel tax credit wipeout in Germany cut biodiesel demand in half: report

In Germany, the national government released figures on the German biodiesel tax exemption, and found that sales of biofuels declined from 3.3. million tons in 2007 to 2.7 million tons in 2008, while sales of biodiesel dropped 50 percent from 800,000 tons to 400,000 tons. Ethanol sales grew from 450,000 tons in 2007 to 620,000 tons in 2008.

Overall, the share of fuel sales commanded by biofuels fell from 7.1 percent to 5.0 percent.
