In Nigeria, Agro Industries Services said that it has set a target of installing 10,000 small-scale ethanol processors in the 36 Nigerian states by December 2013 to provide cooking fuel for 4 million homes. AIS management said that the local micro-refineries would be owned by private individuals, local cooperatives, and that the ethanol would be denatured to make it undrinkable.
The cassakero cooking fuel would be used in a new, “Clean Cook Stove”, a non-pressurised alcohol stove would replace kerosene stoves. The project developers said they would utilize 8 million metric tons of cassava from 1 million hectares of land that would be planted on a nationwide basis.
