Eastman Chemical may join UT-DuPont Danisco Tennessee biofuels project
In Tennessee, Eastman Chemical has indicated an interest in partnering in the $70 million University of Tennessee Biofuels Initiative project. The project, a joint venture of UT and DuPont-Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol, broke ground on a pilot plant in Vonore in October 2008 that will become operational in December. The plant will use corn cobs and ultimately switchgrass as a feedstock.
DDCE’s Vonnie Estes confirmed that the company, a joint venture of Dupont and Genencor, has invested $70 million in the project, and DDCE said that it will ultimately construct three plants, including another in Tennessee and one in the Midwest, and then license its technology.
