Red Birch Energy distributing canola biodiesel at first integrated farm-to-fueling station facility, in Virginia
In Virginia, Red Birch Energy has commenced distributing canola-based biodiesel through its integrated refinery and truck stop in Henry County, in Bassett. The biodiesel plant is next door to the Red Birch Country Market which provides distribution to the truck stop, convenience store and restaurant complex in Bassett.
Red Birch Energy said in January that it expected that farmers would grow 1200 acres of canola to support the facility, adding that they were looking for an alternative to tobacco and that the lands used had been lying fallow.
Red Birch Gas sells a B20 blend, and had estimated initial production and sales at 365,000 gallons per year at the only complete farm-to-fueling station facility in the country.
The company says that it plans to franchise its production concept.
