Florida county admits it lost track of Algenol as algae pioneer slipped away to Texas
In Florida, the Lee County Economic Development Office said that, after Algenol announced it would relocate its proposed algae plant to Texas as part of its Dow Chemical partnership, it had had no record of Algenol and no contact with the firm.
Sue Noe, manager for business assistance, told the News-Press “In a community of almost 17,000 businesses, you can do everything you can to find out who they all are, but some will slip through the cracks, like this one did.” The News-Press noted that rejection of efforts to partner with FPL and a rejection of $2.5 million in state aid may have contributed to the decision to move.
