Licht projects tighter ethanol fuel stocks in 2010
F.O. Licht has forecast a global ethanol surplus of around 185 million gallons in 2010, based on projected global consumption of 20.2 billion gallons. Genome Research article identifies opportunities for more robust ethanol yeast strains, higher yields
In the online journal Genome Research, two studies have identified genomic properties of industrial fuel yeasts that likely gave rise to more robust strains. The group’s work revealed that portions of the genome are plastic compared to other yeast strains, specifically the peripheral regions of chromosomes, where they observed a number of sequence rearrangements.

BP outlines 3-pronged biofuels strategy, says biobutanol plant will open at commercial scale in 2013
In the UK, BP outlined a three-pronged strategy for biofuels: “growing a material sugarcane ethanol business in Brazil, building a cellulosic biofuel business in the U.S. and developing advanced molecules like biobutanol,” according to BP spokeswoman Thea Sherer.
