In Washington state, Blue Marble Energy and Bionavitas announced a partnership in which Blue Marble Energy will produce high-margin biochemicals from microalgae supplied by Bionavitas. Bionavitas, based in Redmond, Washington, has developed Light Immersion Technology that enables the rapid, cost-effective production of algae for environmental remediation, manufacturing health and nutraceutical products, and producing biofuels.

Dow Chemical to partner with Algenol in 24-acre algae facility; ethanol is target as base for bioplastics
In Florida, Dow Chemical announced that it will partner with Algenol Fuels to build and operate a 24-acre Texas-based algae biorefinery demonstration farm that will produce ethanol at a target cost of $1 per gallon.

Myriant partners with University of Florida, Buckeye in biochemicals venture
In Florida, the newly formed Myriant Technologies will partner with Buckeye Technologies and the University of Florida to develop a pilot-scale bio-based chemicals plant in Perry, adjacent to an existing wood cellulose plant.

BioEnergy International forms Myriant Technologies for biobased chemicals business
In Massachusetts, BioEnergy International said that it will form Myriant Technologies to incorporate all of its biobased chemicals business and intellectual property. BioEnergy will continue its pursuit of biofuels opportunities, including its 110 Mgy ethanol plant in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, currently slated for operation in January. The newly-constituted entities will operate as completely separate companies.
