In New York, the closing of the Sunoco purchase of the former Northeastern Biofuels plant in Volney for $8.5 million, continues a trend whereby oil companies are moving into the ethanol production busines…on the cheap. The Energy Information Administration is projecting that global oil demand will shrink 1.8 million barrels per day in 2009. Oil prices seen at $50-$80 range through 2011, then climbing towards $100-$110 per barrel
In Venezuela, a recent energy forum in Caracas discussed various oil price equilibrium scenarios.
According to the presenters, Saudi Arabia has targeted $60-$70 per barrel, while Venezuela and Iran are targeting $70-$80. Presenters noted that investment bankers are calculating that the price will average $50-$60 through early 2011 and then begin to rise towards $100-$110.
“Downstream” released” documentary on impact of Alberta’s oil sand industry on local population
The environmental documentary Downstream has been released, chronicling the impact of oil production for Alberta’s tar sands on the local population. The independent web TV service Babelgum is distributing the film globally, and screenings have been set up in Ottawa and the Burbank International Film Festival.
