Full-Time Research Associate, Biomass Applications
We are looking for a unique individual to join our Biomass Applications Group in Palo Alto, California. The successful candidate must understand, and have experience working with, the recalcitrant nature of ligno-cellulosic materials, including the impact of thermo-chemical pretreatments on the biomass characteristics.
Primary duties include:
-The design and execution of ligno-cellulosic biomass research/application experiments, including conducting and reporting studies on projects assigned by the project leader.
-Enzymatic hydrolysis/saccharification of various pretreated ligno-cellulosic biomasses.
-Engaging with external customers to support their use of Genencor’s biomass enzyme products.
-Management of routine activities, including experimental record keeping, data analysis and reporting.
-Presentation of their results in internal meetings.
-Participation in applicable biomass research conferences.
-MS in Chemical Engineering/Biochemistry or related science
-At least three years of R&D experience in ligno-cellulosic conversion, preferably in an industrial setting, with a demonstrated interest in the challenges of scaling conversion processes beyond the laboratory bench conceptual testing.
-Analytical and bio-analytical chemistry skills and computer proficiency.
-Must be able to analyze results and present data.
-Team player skills necessary to be a key project team member and to coordinate effectively with commercialization teams
-Able to work with diverse groups of technical experts, including process engineers
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Motivated self-starter with good orgnanizational skills
