The Digest is growing! We’re looking for a few good part-time writers to create short digested articles of interest to our 2.2 million readers worldwide. If you’ve been reading the Digest, you’ll know that we summarize each day numerous articles in 75-150 words with a link back to the original full article source.
We’ve been flat out covering fuels, chemicals and biomaterials — now, the advanced bioeconomy is on the march and so are we. We’ve expanding our coverage to include advanced nutrition, synthetic biology / genetics advances, advanced agriculture, and we need some more help around here.
It’s helpful to be a) well-versed in the topic, b) write snappy summaries and headlines, and c) know a thing or two about searching for articles of interest. Have at least two of those skills, and we’ll help you with the third.
You don;t get rich writing for the Digest, but once you get it down, the hourly rate’s pretty attractive, and you can pretty much work wherever, whenever, subject only to the publishing deadlines.
You’d provide, on a given topic area that we’d agree on beforehand, a package of summarized stories, typically 8 in a package, each 75-150 words with a headline and a linking URLs. Payment is $100 per package, and a good snappy writer can finish up in 1-2 hours. We’d agree on a set number of packages per week based on your schedule, up to 4 per week.
That’s pretty much it, except to say that it’s a pretty good way to get known, and we’re a harmonious team of basically self-directed people who like to have independence and are treated with respect – the average editorial person has been with us 6 years.
Before making a decision, we will likely require a sample story package, but we’ll compensate you for that at the standard rate. So, yet paid to audition. We write exclusively in English, so proficiency in that language is essential, and you’ll provide your own internet access and writing platform. You’ll submit packages by email. You can be anywhere – we have team members in NAM, SAM and the EU. Submission is by 4pm ET daily, so Asian-based writers will have to write early or file late.
