In Panama, Agro2 announced that it has received funding from the FACT Foundation and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs for a project to produce cassava-based ethanol at a demonstration plant in Veraguas. The Agro2 project aims to collaborate with farmers and NGOs to explore the feasibility of cassava as a biofuels feedstock, using a 1,000 hectare planting as a base for their feasibility studies.
