UK's Energy and Climate Ministry group sez "cut biofuels targets"

September 14, 2010 |

In the UK, a committee appointed by the Energy and Climate Ministry has recommended cutting back the government’s 10 percent renewables target (for 2020) to 8 percent, citing that the sustainability impacts are too high. Currently, the national target is a 2.5 percent biofuels component in transportation fuels.

The committee also recommnded slashing the target for biomass-based heat from 12 percent to 11 percent. The committee concluded that shortfalls in overall renewables targets could and should be made up for through increased energy efficiency efforts.
