In the UK, a new study by Bloomberg New Energy Finance says that biofuels from plant and municipal solid waste could supply 65% of Europe’s gasoline supply, or 24 billion gallons, by 2020. At least 100 of the refineries could be built per year beginning in 2013.
Roberto Rodriguez Labastida, co-author of the study on waste biofuels in the EU: “With the current regulatory framework, the EU is likely to underperform, leaving most of its potential in the ground and, most importantly, its companies behind the U.S. and Brazil.”
