Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute debuts algae-to-biodiesel technology

In Taiwan, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) debuted its technology for processing microalgae into biodiesel, and reported that it had invented multi-layer filters that boosted the concentration of algae in seawater to between 120 and 150 grams per liter. The research team said that the production costs were higher than the point of commercial viability at this stage. The R&D is supported by a $7.67 million grant from the Bureau of Energy under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
