Pearson Fuels wins $1.8M biodiesel distribution grant from California

October 15, 2010 |

In California, Pearson Fuels has won a $1.8 million state grant from the California Energy Commission, to get more biodiesel in more tanker trucks.  Mike Lewis, Pearson General Manager explains, “We are going into a diesel terminal where diesel is sold… We are going to put biodiesel in there and tie it all together.”

The plan is to set up preblended biodiesel stations to two terminals; El Cajon’s SoCo Group and Sacramento’s InterState Oil Co.  The grant will cover nearly 60% of the cost.

Current practice is for the driver to go to two different terminals, purchasing biodiesel at one terminal, and then driving to a second terminal to purchase regular diesel.  With this kind of splash blending, there is no quality control, and no way of knowing what exactly that vehicle is driving on.  It is thought that a single pumping station to deliver a set blend will save time and money, as well as precise control of the blend.
