Dupont Danisco Cellulosic Ethanol and LS9 join the top 10 as Hot 50 voting continues.

November 17, 2010 |

Amyris, Ceres, Novozymes, OriginOil, Petrobras, POET, Sapphire Energy, and Solazyme formed the top 10 in the second day of subscriber balloting for the 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy.

Gevo and Shell, which made the top 10 on day one of voting, were just outside the Top 10, along with Genencor, Codexis, UOP, Enerkem, Joule Unlimited, Waste Management, Terrabon, and Qteros.

Among those just outside the top 20, PetroAlgae, Algenol, BP Biofuels, Cobalt Technologies, IneosBIO, Mascoma, and Virent Energy Systems.

Balloting will be open to the registered subscribers of the Biofuels Digest, Geothermal Digest and Renewable Chemicals Digest e-newsletters, through Monday November 30th at 5pm EST, as well as a panel of invited international selectors.

“Over the next three or four days we should begin to see the numbers of independent voters begin to overwhelm the impact of “friends and family” voting,” said Biofuels Digest editor and publisher Jim Lane. “But we continue to see a lot of support for waste-to-energy companies like Enerkem, Terrabon, and Waste Management, and that is starting to look like a real trend for this year. Plus, the microbial fermentation companies like Solazyme, Amyris and LS9 are doing even better than last year.”

Results include only ballots submitted by Digest subscribers. Ballots from the invited international selectors, which make up half of the overall scoring, are now being received and will also finalize on November 30th. The invited selectors ballots generally feature a broader range of companies in terms of geographies and processing technologies.

All selectors are able to take advantage of what has been described as the “most comprehensive, free data resource in bioenergy,” the 380-page “Selectors Data Book” which includes company profiles, surveys and industry data. This is the third year that the Digest has published its annual 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy rankings
