50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy TRENDS: Strategic investors

December 7, 2010 |

This year, the Hot 50 marked the entrance of a number of strategic investors and large caps into the Hot 50 – notably, Cargill at #36, Waste Management at #42, Chevron at #48, and Monsanto at #49. Fully four of the eight new companies in the Hot 50 were strategics.

Overall, the list of strategics doubled. last year, oil majors dominated with ExxonMobil, Shell, BP Biofuels and Petrobras.

This year, though Chevron joined the list, the additions represented a broadening of the group to include companies that are gateways to municipal and agricultural residue feedstocks. Waste Management, which has made a series of investments in companies such as Terrabon and S4, is the most notable amongst these.
