Nepal jatropha project underway

In Nepal, Basanta Community Forest and Sri Krishna Community Forest have commenced planting jatropha, in partnership with Crystal Bio Energy Nepal. The groups, based in the Kanchanpur district, have planted 30,000 jatropha plants on 10,000 hectares, with a goal of making Nepal diesel-independent by 2020. The first harvests are, curiously, expected by the group within the first year after planting.
