Low-quality cooking oil delays Bahamas Waste biodiesel production

December 22, 2010 |

In the Bahamas, Bahamas Waste biodiesel production has been delayed after the company discovered used cooking oil donated for conversion was “in far worse shape” than expected. The free fatty acid (FFA) level content was much higher than originally anticipated, and a new pre-wash system had to be installed to lower the free fatty acid level.
The first batch of biodiesel was expected to be produced at its $750,000 Gladstone Road plant in late September, but the company hopes the plant will soon begin biodiesel production in short order.
The company also hopes to be able to access carbon credits. If such funding is made available, the company will donate the proceeds to the Cape Eleuthera Institute (CEI) in Eleuthera.
