US ethanol industry will grow 5 percent in 2011, says Novozymes

January 21, 2011 |

In North Carolina, Novozymes has projected that the U.S. ethanol industry will grow about 5% during 2011 13.8 billion gallons. Novozymes CFO Benny Loft told Dow Jones Newswires.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty linked to that number. The Renewable Fuels Standard talks about 12.6 billion gallons being produced in 2011, so that is the minimum.” Added production will come from exports to markets that have previously taken Brazilian sugarcane-based ethanol, which has increasedc in price as the global sugar market has increased. Loft told Dow that Novozymes expects the US to ease blend wall concerns by approving E15 ethanol for cars made after 2001.
