Thailand, Scania launch E95 ethanol bus trial

February 2, 2011 |

In Thailand, the government will launch in March a trial of Scania’s E95 buses through September in an attempt to see if current diesel and LNG buses can be replaced. The government is trying to boost ethanol consumption to 9 million liters per day by 2022 from the present 1.3 million liters.

Buses in Thailand consume about 50 million liters of diesel per day. There are about 1,000 public buses, which if converted to use ethanol would consume about 100,000 liters of ethanol per day, reducing diesel use by 60,000 liters per day.
