Biodiesel homebrewers find waste veggie oils prices soaring

Across the Midwest, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that drivers who make their own home-brew fuels by cleaning up used cooking oil—rather than processing it into biodiesel—are suffering from heavy competition by middlemen who are buying up the grease for biodiesel production. Whereas these ‘greasers’ used to get the UCO for free, they’re now losing their sources as ‘renderers’ pay upwards of $50 per 55 gallon drum of grease.
