Zambia aims to increase biofuels awareness

April 1, 2011 |

In Zambia, Thomson Sinkala, chairperson of the Biofuels Association of Zambia, stated in an interview that BAZ plans to increase public awareness activities to get out more information to the public.  Sinkala stated that BAZ would continue to talk with the Government on the need to announce blending ratios.  Sinkala explained that one hectare of certain feedstocks could generate between US$6,000 and $15,000 or more.

Sinkala noted that with just 1 million hectares planted, Zambia could see annual earnings of between $6 billion and $15 billion a year  According to Sinkala, European production capacity is only 16 million tonnes, with a deficit of 18 million tonnes, but that the largest challenge facing BAZ currently, was the lack of Government mandated blending ratios or incentives for biofuels.
