PTPN X, New Energy to invest $25M in Indonesian ethanol capacity

In Indonesia, state-owned plantation company PTPN X plans to invest $25.5 million in conjunction with Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to build an ethanol plant in Mojokerto in East Java. Construction of the 30 million liter, molasses-based facility will begin construction in May and is set to come online by the end of 2012.

The plant will use about 100,000 metric tons of the nearby Gempolkrep sugar mill’s 250,000 tons of annual molasses production.
