Alabama Stovetop to Road Top program stalls

May 25, 2011 |

In Alabama, Calhoun County’s From Stovetop to Road Top program of recycling cooking oil into biodiesel has slowed with only 20 gallons of UCO collected per week from households and up to 150 gallons per week from restaurants.

The county’s highway department hopes to convert about 10% of its diesel use to biodiesel and has so far used about 3,500 gallons since the program began. Plans to collect UCO from the school districts for later use to run school buses is under discussion.
