Honeywell to attempt first transatlantic biofuels flight

June 17, 2011 |

In New Jersey, Honeywell Green Jet Fuel is powering the first-ever transatlantic biofuel flight for the Paris Air Show. When it lands in Paris, the Honeywell-owned Gulfstream G450 will become the first aircraft to fly from North America to Europe with a 50/50 blend of camelina-derived biofuel and petroleum-based jet fuel.

This flight follows the initial approval from ASTM International for the use of aviation biofuel made from natural oils such as Honeywell Green Jet Fuel in commercial flight. The biofuel, as a 50/50 blend with petroleum-based jet fuel, meets all specifications for flight without any modifications to the aircraft or engine.

The business jet is scheduled for take-off from Morristown Municipal Airport in Morristown, N.J., around 8 p.m. Friday, June 17th, and will arrive in Paris-Le Bourget Airport about seven hours after takeoff as the company prepares for the Paris Air Show.  A press briefing will be held upon the aircrafts arrival in Paris.
