DOE seeks input from aerospace industry on aviation biofuels investment

August 26, 2011 |

In Washington, AviationWeek reports that the DOE will be asking the aerospace industry for suggestions on the $510 million President Obama announced for aviation biofuels last week.  Reportedly, the RFP will not specify either fuels or feedstocks to be funded.  As Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy, explains, “We are neutral on what the fuel is…We will see what industry comes back with.”  Mabus stated that the Navy has requested that Congress allow the Navy to sign off take agreements beyond the current five year limit to assist getting the market going.
