LanzaTech, Shougang commercial-scale advanced biofuels partnership

September 28, 2011 |

In New Zealand, the Vice Premier of China and the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand were among the representatives at a signing ceremony for a new JV between China’s Shougang Group and LanzaTech, to construct a demonstration plant at one of Shougang’s steel mills in China, then to quickly follow with a commercial production facility in 2013.

Beijing-headquartered Shougang is one of the largest steel producers in China. The Group is looking globally for technology that will help reduce the environmental impact of steel making. Shougang President Wang Qinghai said that the JV symbolizes Shougang’s desire to break the paradigm of heavy industry being a key contributor to carbon emissions.
