Sun Biofuels laying off workers in Tanzania as drought strikes

October 6, 2011 |

In Tanzania, a jatropha biodiesel project owned by UK company, Sun Biofuels Plc., is facing financial trouble. Employees and casual workers of the Company report that work at the Kisarawe jatropha farm came to a halt last week when managers informed over 300 workers to collect their terminal benefits and leave until further notice.

The Company has been managing over 8,000 hectares of jatropha located in the Kisarawe district since 2008. An official from Sun Biofuels stated activities have been temporarily suspended due to drought.
